My current Year 12 essays all read as if every single piece of evidence is equally important. A recent batch of essays on whether Labour were a political force by 1914 would have you believe that the Osborne Judgement was as significant a piece of evidence as the impact of the Tonypandy riots – something which, in my humble opinion isn’t true.
To address this we’ve been doing some work on exam literacy and I got them to create a hierarchy of evaluative words. Words which signify that a piece of evidence is not very important to words that signify that a piece of evidence was critical. This has gone through a number of drafts which each of my three groups taking a role in editing it.
If you think something is wrong or something is missing do let me know so I can make this even better.
